The Thatdbesweet/OIWCS 2009 tour is over

The last four weekends have been spent a different comic convention. Overall I’m considering each one a success because I met at least one interesting person at each show. Considering everything has been a blur for the last month I figure I’d just give a recap of our last con, the Central Canada Comic Con in Winnipeg.

This was our first time at the show and depending on next years date I’m sure we’ll do it again. This year it was over the Halloween weekend, which I doubt we’d do again, but besides missing out on Halloween at home the shot itself was actually really fun.

It was just about the perfect size for a comic our size in that we’d probably get lost in the shuffle of a huge con and we tend to get ignored at smaller cons since we’re a webcomic and don’t have any printed collections of our comic to sell.

Highlights of the weekend were definitely the drive, which was surprising since it was about 8.5 hours but we drove up with Joe from Business Casual and it was really interesting getting to “talk shop” with someone who’s been at the readership level we are and to try and see what worked for him. I already know a few things I will approach differently based on his suggestions. The other two people I was very happy to meet this weekend were Sandy Debreuil from the webcomic Crowbar Benson, and of course Peter Mayhew who you should recognize as the actor who played Chewbacca.

If you actually know of a comic convention near you please let me know so I can look into attending it next year. Anyway, that’s my recap. Now go read through the archives of Business Casual and Crowbar Benson, then invite me over and we can watch Star Wars together.

the 7-8 hour drive actually seemed to go by pretty fast. we didn’t even have to pull out the dvd player on the trip.
